At the beginning of this academic year ABIS registered with Eco Schools (www.eco-schools.org.uk). In an effort to make ABIS and the community it serves even more environmental friendly and aware, the ABIS Eco Club is tasked with supporting on going eco projects at the school and starting new ones. Sustaining and initiating such projects make ABIS eligible for awards from Eco Schools.
Started last year by an ABIS parent, battery recycling continues in partnership with the Sohar Battery Collection. At last count in March, the ABIS community had recycled 16.3 kgs. of batteries! Please continue this great effort by putting your spent batteries in a plastic bag and deposit them in the battery shaped bin hanging to the right of the main entrance doors. It is important to mark the bag with your child’s name and grade because, like last year, there are prizes for those who have donated the most.
Paper recycling continues successfully from last year in partnership with Muscat Daily newspaper. The Eco Club has started the process of setting up systems in the school to ensure even more paper is recycled and reused. Please continue to recycle paper from home in the massive yellow bin near the exit of the school’s parking lot.
The recycling of drinking cans also continues to be a well-received initiative. Started last year by the Eco Club, the school community has recycled nearly 15 kgs. of drinking cans this year alone. As with your participation with the paper and battery recycling, thank you! Keep them coming! Drinking cans (no glass, plastic or tin cans please) are recycled in the blue bin, beside the yellow paper bin, near the exit of the school’s parking lot.
Thanks again for your participation and support. Here are of recent pics of the Eco Club in action!
