During this week, Grade 8 students evaluated translated literature through a series of engaging classroom activities focused on developing their critical thinking and analytical skills. Students carefully read a translated literary text and were guided to observe cultural and linguistic differences that may appear as a result of translation. This helped them understand how meaning can shift or be adapted across languages while still preserving the essence of the original work.
Students then participated in structured discussions about the main events of the text. They worked on identifying the sequence of events and exploring cause-and-effect relationships, which supported their understanding of the plot structure. These discussions encouraged students to justify their opinions using evidence from the text and to listen respectfully to the perspectives of their peers.
A key focus was also placed on character analysis. Students examined the personalities, motivations, and development of the characters throughout the story. They explored how characters’ decisions influenced the progression of events and reflected on how these characters might relate to real-life situations or other texts they have studied.
