During their study of the unit entitled Illegal Migration, tenth-grade students explored one of the most prominent contemporary humanitarian and social issues that directly affects societies at both the local and global levels. The students examined the concept of illegal migration from multiple perspectives, including its economic, social, and psychological causes and motives, as well as its negative consequences and serious repercussions on individuals, families, and communities.

The study of the short story Al-Harraga by the writer Ahlam Mosteghanemi served as a rich literary model that enabled students to gain a deeper understanding of this issue. The story reflects the suffering of youth, the loss of dreams, and the conflict between hope and despair through an emotionally powerful literary style that touches the reader’s feelings and raises awareness. Through analyzing the events, characters, and main ideas of the story, students were able to connect the literary text to real-life experiences, which contributed to developing their skills in critical thinking, analysis, and inference.
