A new unit which will focus on forces, energy, and work has been introduced to grade 8 science class. This unit serves as the culmination of the four key units studied throughout the year, including transforming matter, the scientific method, and cell structure. As an integral part of this unit, each group in class has been assigned a research task, diving into the various types of forces and forms of energy. These research tasks will contribute towards their criterion D formative assessment, enabling students to showcase their understanding of the subject matter and demonstrate skills such as collaboration and research. Additionally, students will engage in captivating lab investigations, where they will explore the principles of forces and energy transformation, including the creation of energy Sankey diagrams.

At the conclusion of the unit, students will undergo a summative assessment in criterion A, evaluating their knowledge and comprehension of the material. They will also be tasked with designing an investigation within the laboratory to collect and analyze data, which will serve as the foundation for writing a comprehensive lab report as part of their summative assessments in criteria B and C.

This unit promises to be an exciting and enlightening journey into the subject of Physics and the fundamental forces that shape our world.
