Last Thursday ABIS hosted the finals of the inaugural ABIS Invitational Basketball Competition. A big crowd turned out to cheer on not only our teams but the opposition teams as well and the atmosphere was loud and involved. First up were the girls against Sohar Park and they started the game fired up and ready to go. Sanna scored a beautiful basket to start the ball rolling and the girl’s confidence grew as Christine followed up quickly with another. Sanna scored two more and Andee and Sara one each for ABIS to lead by 12 before the Sohar Park girls found their feet and started to get back into the game. The second half was evenly contested with both teams determined to win and fighting hard for every ball. Courney scored three strong baskets just as Sohar Park were catching up to ensure our girls won the final 35-20. For ABIS Sanna scored 13 points, Courtney 8 and Christine, Andee and Tay’a 4 each in offense with Emma, Hannah and Sara putting in excellent efforts in defense. Well done girls.

The boys game was also a tense, hard fought affair with both teams giving it everything they had. ABIS got off to a good start with baskets from David, Newton and Klint and showed good composure with strong defense and sensible passing. A technical foul after a fantastic basket from Newton got the boys from the Bangladeshi School started and they slowly built on their score to get back into the game. After a solid first half our boys let their concentration slip and three 3 pointers in a row from the Bangladeshi School put the pressure right back on ABIS as it was a 5 point ball game. David scored two and Kameron scored one in the final two minutes to keep our lead and run out eventual winners 36-28. For ABIS David scored 17 points, Newton 9, and Klint and Kameron 4 while Isaac, Ishtiaq and Julio were excellent in defense in a great team effort.
