Yesterday the entire secondary school traveled to Liwa to take part in a beach clean up. This was a student-driven initiative: David, Trisha, Aisha, and Anton designed this project as part of the school’s CAS program. They recognized a community issue that needed addressing and took positive steps towards fixing that issue.

Sad to say, but the beach is in dire need of clean up. In view of the port and next to a field of mangroves, the beach sand is clogged with everything from old rope to boots to juice cartons. Our students staked out a large swath of beach and over the course of two hours picked the sand clean. Grand total: 80 bags of rubbish!

Congratulations to our students for taking the lead on this. It sets a positive example not just for the school, but for the local community as well. This type of service is not common in Oman, but perhaps with efforts like the one yesterday, that can change.
