The sporting highlights for this week were two exciting games of basketball involving our 14&U boys and girls teams and their counterparts from the Indian International School. First up were our girls and although our girls started the stronger the Indian girls were first to score a two pointer. Our girls were quick to fight back and after being fouled Kerry Ann coolly sank both her free shots to equalize the scores. Ellie then scored for ABIS to take the lead but every time we looked like breaking away the Indian girls would score to catch up. Sanna and Christine both scored but after each goal the opposition pegged them back for the scores to be level at 8-8 with 30 seconds to go. After playing brilliantly with the ball all game but being unlucky with her shooting Andee put up a long shot in the final seconds that found the hoop to give our girls a 10-8 victory. Well done on a great game girls and also to the Indian School girls who put in such a great effort.
The boy’s game was a similarly close contest featuring some quality play from both teams. Once again the Indian School was the first to score before David put the first points on the board for ABIS. Our two youngest players Newton and Sachin were next to score to give ABIS the lead which they fought hard to maintain for the rest of the game. With scores once again level Saif found some space to score a good basket before Isaac scored a great jump shot to extend the lead to 4 points. The Indian boys weren’t going to give up though and fought back to be level at half time. David was the first to score after the break followed by a layup from Isaac for our boys to once again surge ahead. Shalin and Kameron also got on the scoresheet for ABIS to hold onto the lead in the last quarter for a 29-25 win. Congratulations both teams on a great game.
