It’s been a week of exploration for all students now that their summative assessments have been completed.

Sketching is an important part of developing ideas. Students watched a YouTube video demonstrating effective product sketching techniques and then evaluated the teachers sketch based on the techniques shown in the video. Next lesson students worked on developing their sketches detailing a range of dual purpose appliances…..see images.

Grade 8 students have been creating their own “MYP portfolio” website. The aim is to showcase their learning through an academic year by capturing evidence of their learning using their own google site. This week students focused in on the structure of their website page architecture and we explored the concept of scalable.

Grade 9s have been completing cooking challenges as part of Masterchef 2021. This week they completed task 5, creating a pasta sauce. As part of the challenge they are required to consider how they can put their twist on recipes to tease the sensors. As they can not be judged on taste, they are judged on complexity of cooking process, aesthetics, using different textures, sensory exploration and originality. It’s been a fun but practical unit for students learning invaluable life skills. We finished off the week capturing the process of making a cup of tea using a gantt chart. Gantt charts are an invaluable project management tool.

Th grade 10s have been exploring coding of games using the website the “hour of code”. It has been a welcome change after completing their e-assessments.
