It is with great excitement and anticipation that the school bands have begun to rehearse fully this past week. Those students who are renting instruments through Talentz in Muscat have finally got their hands on the shiny new instruments which means that everyone is ready to play in a band!
At ABIS students pick an instrument in Grade 5 and they spend one of their three music lessons learning to play it in a band setting. The instrument selection process is just coming to and end and all parents in Grade 5 should have seen a letter coming home mentioning their child’s instrument choice. When these letters are signed and returned, students can receive an instrument from ABIS and we can begin to rehearse! I’m particularly excited about the sights and sounds that come from a beginner band!!
The Grade 6 band provides some exciting musical opportunities due to the interesting line-up of the band… not only are there 4 percussionists (!!) but there is also the only tenor saxophone player in the whole school! It will be great to discover music that really showcases this fantastic group of performers:
For the first time at ABIS we have a band comprised of Grades 7, 8, 9 and 10! What is exciting about this particular band is the number of performers that come together… we should be capable of making a nice big sound! The band has already begun work on a couple of pieces – a number by The Rolling Stones and a couple of famous movie themes.
So there you have the three bands we have at ABIS this year. They will be due on a concert stage near you… stay tuned.
