Secondary students in grade 6-12 made fifteen micro loans totaling more than $300 (USD). During last week’s read-aloud, students learned about Kiva.org and the work it does to provide micro loans to people who are too poor to receive services from traditional lenders.
In response to the interest from the students last week, I asked them to help read through some of the many worthy applicants and help decide which needs we would support. Please ask your child which loan they chose to support. Consider also asking additional questions, like…
What drew your attention to this loan?
Did you consider any other loans?
What information did you find about how the money would be used?
What is the repayment schedule for the loan?
Kiva loans are low interest or no interest loans in increments of $25 that are provided to strong, smart, hard-working people who simply need a loan but are unable to approach a bank. Please consider looking into this great organization. Kiva.org
