This week, our Grade 9 scientists continued exploring Acids and Bases Around Us through inquiry-based learning. Students investigated how different indicators—including litmus, phenolphthalein, universal indicator, and natural plant pigments—can be used to identify unknown solutions and estimate their pH.
Students also made their own natural indicator from red cabbage, then used it to investigate and classify laboratory and household substances as acidic, neutral, or alkaline. Through observing and comparing colour changes, they gathered evidence and used it to support their conclusions.
Next week, we will explore why pH is important for different organisms and environments, including soil acidity, review our practical investigations, and move on to reactions between acids and bases.
