Inquiry is the foundation of learning within the IB framework at ABIS. This week, Grade 8 Science students conducted a practical investigation into the chemistry of biomolecules.
Students performed independent chemical tests to identify starch, proteins, reducing sugars, and lipids in food samples. This allowed them to apply theoretical knowledge to laboratory practice. The task required precision in handling reagents, such as Benedict’s solution and ethanol, and the ability to draw evidence-based conclusions from qualitative observations.
Next week, our focus shifts to the Summative assessment for Criteria B and C. Students will investigate enzyme activity to collect raw data and will spend time throughout the week curating their formal lab reports. These investigations develop the technical skills and analytical thinking necessary for advanced scientific study.
