In Grade 7 Science, we have begun our engaging new unit titled “What Makes Matter Be Alive,” which serves as an introduction to cell biology. So far, students have explored in depth the key characteristics that define living organisms, as well as the levels of organization within living systems, progressing from cells to tissues, organs, and organ systems. This foundational knowledge is helping them develop a clearer understanding of how complex living organisms function.
Additionally, students have learned about the parts and functions of a microscope and have been introduced to important lab skills. They had the opportunity to apply this knowledge during a practical session where they observed onion cells under the microscope. This hands-on experience sparked a great deal of curiosity and excitement, as students were fascinated to see structures that are not visible to the naked eye. Overall, it has been a highly engaging and stimulating start to the unit, with students showing enthusiasm for both the theoretical and practical aspects of learning.
