Across the MYP and DP programs, maths requires skills that cannot be ignored. While we do summative assessments that explore the history of maths or applications of how to use maths in real life, we need mastery of the content and skills to unlock deeper meaning. This comes to studying smart and practicing skills. Therefore you will notice a shift in the way I am teaching maths to your kids now. We focus on skills first, and then we practice those skills. Thereafter, we explore how and why this knowledge is used.
To help your children, ensure they do a little revision every day – even 5 minutes to review what was done on class that day. If any work is outstanding for the day, that should be completed as homework. I cannot stress this enough. We have a lot of ground to cover and it is up to each individual to play their part. Not understanding is acceptable, but not doing and falling behind is a lack of discipline. Regular practice is the key.
You cannot afford to fall behind as it may be too late to cram in knowledge at the end. The pace is hard, the mountain is high. But you can do it with proper planning and discipline. Go conquer your mountains.
