In Indian-administered Kashmir, particularly the capital Srinagar, heavy monsoon rains have lead to surging floodwaters. At least 175 lives have been claimed, and almost 50,000 have been rescued. Although the floodwaters have started receding and the rain has stopped, 600,000 people are still stranded. In some places, the water has risen up to three stories, resulting in people having to evacuate or wait for help on their roofs.

As I come from Kashmir, I feel like it is my responsibility to contribute and help the people there. I want to raise money, buy supplies and then distribute them when I travel there later this month. But I can’t do this alone. I need as many donations as I can get, because more money means more supplies. The government is trying their best to rescue as many people as possible, but it just isn’t enough. That’s why the people of Kashmir are stepping up and doing their bit, which is what I want to do. Also a harsh winter is approaching so the people whose homes were destroyed may not have a place to live or may not have enough necessities to last them the whole winter.

Please help me achieve the goal of helping my community. My friends and I will be collecting donations in the Reception area before and after school throughout the next week. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to providing this aid to my people with your generous support.

Thank you so much in advance,
Fiza Dar
