Earlier this week, Grade 7 students completed their Criterion A Summative Assessment on Cell Biology. The assessment focused on key concepts explored throughout the unit, including the characteristics of life (MRS GREN), levels of biological organization, cell theory, and the structure and function of cell organelles. Students demonstrated their understanding by applying scientific knowledge to both familiar and unfamiliar situations, comparing plant and animal cells, and explaining how specialized cells are adapted for specific functions. This assessment encouraged students to move beyond memorization by analyzing information and using evidence to support their ideas.

During the second half of the week, students began their new collaborative research project: Impact of Science in Cancer Treatment. Working in groups using digital tools such as Canva and Google Slides, students are investigating the question: “How Science Transforms Cancer Treatment.” Through this inquiry, students are exploring what cancer is, different types of cancer, and how scientific discoveries and technological advancements have improved diagnosis and treatment methods. The project also helps students strengthen important ATL skills, including research, collaboration, communication, digital literacy, and critical thinking, while making meaningful connections between cell biology and real-world medical science.
