This week, the 10th-grade students analyzed the poem ‘Cawārib al-Mawt’ (Boats of Death) by Nizar Qabbani, which addresses the issue of illegal immigration. The students demonstrated a deep understanding of the poem’s meanings, focusing on the symbolism and emotions conveyed by the poet regarding the suffering of immigrants. They also conducted a literary critique of the rhetorical devices used by Qabbani, such as metaphors and similes, and interpreted the psychological and social dimensions related to immigration. The analysis stood out for its critical perspective, which explored the social and political context of the poem, while emphasizing the impact that illegal immigration can have on individuals and communities.
