This week in music has been very varied, full of exciting activities from each grade. All the students have demonstrated their knowledge and understanding. I am continually impressed by the engagement of students and the suggestions they make that help improve a game or performance. Through the student’s engagement, our lessons are always interesting.

Students arrived in music dressed in their Omani costumes which was very exciting. On Wednesday we had guest students from an Oman school, Al Kawkaba. They came dressed in amazing Omani dress and performed a traditional dance and song. We shared some traditional songs with everyone joining in.

Grade 2 students were able to sort all the percussion instruments into different categories such as instruments you hit or shake. This was in preparation for creating music that can be used for the background music for a cartoon. This unit will require the students to be inventive and create sounds that can be used to illustrate the sound in the cartoon.

Grade 5 ukulele students have really surprised themselves by learning a new tune, Alice The Camel in two lessons. The chords of the song are the same as Wheels on the Bus. They have learned the melody by reading the music notation. Grade 5 is learning about Chinese music and how to improvise using the pentatonic scale. Thank you for your support, have a great weekend.
