Students in each grade have been learning how important it is to take responsibility for their role when playing an instrument in an ensemble. The kindergarten students have enjoyed using rhythm sticks to play simple rhythms on the floor, on their knees and even rolling the sticks to the beat.

I asked the students how it felt to start a piece of music on time and finish together. They all agreed that it was a great and very rewarding. Grade 3 students finally got to play their handmade instruments and perform some Samba rhythms.

The ukulele group in grade 4 have been working very hard on a performance of The Wheels on the Bus. They played the music using chords and the melody, which was very impressive. Half the class stemmed the chords while those students that felt ready played the melody. In grade 6 the students played their first 12 bar blues and were able to add guitar into the performance with support.

The students and I look forward to share what we have learnt in our lessons during the Three Way Conferences.
