Congratulations to our intrepid G7,8&9 students who overcame the challenge of trekking 75kms through the mountains, along the wadis and across the plains back to school. ABIS students showed great resilience and fortitude as they traveled, sometimes by camel and sometimes on foot, for 15kms a day for 5 days through rugged terrain. At the end of each day our students had to pitch their tents, organize their bedding, help with cooking and clean up their plates and utensils before heading to their tents for a well earned rest. In the morning it was a matter of helping with breakfast and cleaning up again before breaking camp and setting off for the day. The days trekking were undertaken with positive attitudes, camaraderie, jokes and smiling faces as we made our journey back toward Sohar each day.
As well as being character building this nomadic way of traveling gave students an insight into the life of a Bedouin and the camel drivers treated them to many Omani customs such as making bread and performing Omani dances and songs around the camp fire.
It was a special moment for all as we made our way into school at the end of our final leg.
A special commendation must go to Claire who unfortunately broke her leg at the end of our second day. Claire showed such bravery and character as she coped with pain and being in such an unfamiliar environment as she waited for help that we were all in awe of how well she handled the situation.
