The students in Grades 7 to 9 English and Grade 8 Integrated Humanities are completing their final summative assessments.

Grade 7 students at this stage should have completed the writing of their own myth (inspired by their own culture) in English. Some of them had to add more detail to meet the minimum word count of 300. A few students are falling behind, which means they have to put in extra time to ensure their book is completed next week by the due date.

Grade 8 students are completing case studies on a chosen natural disaster. They have been doing research for much of this week and on Wednesday started putting their research notecards together into the case study. Most students are collaborating very well with their partner and keep each other accountable through their shared action plan. In English, they have completed creating their ads or commercials and writing the rationale. This is their second summative for Unit 1 and the grades will be reflected in their end-of-semester reports.

Grade 9 students are also completing their second summative for the term. They have explored and analysed texts to use for their own travel writing. This week, their focus was on analysing how a reportage is written and for what purpose. Next week, they will complete their own texts for the travel writing unit.
