This year’s Mental Health Awareness month has placed significant emphasis on anxiety. One area of concern, for parents and teachers, is anxiety among students. Young people can be at risk for increased levels of anxiety during times of transition, such as moving from one educational level to another (e.g., from PYP to MYP, MYP to DP), and particularly the significant transition from secondary school to university. For some members of our community, that latter transition will also include changing countries and leaving their support group behind.
Whatever the transition you are facing, take time to be kind to yourselves. Acknowledge your successes and how much you have achieved to get to this point. Congratulate yourself for making it to the end of the race you have been running up to this point, and hold on tight to the excitement that comes with starting something new.
If you need a little help managing unhelpful emotions along the way, this link will take you to a very helpful set of resources, created by young people, for young people. “How I Cope. – A Young Person’s Guide”
