Last weekend the ABIS MUN club had the opportunity to travel to the American School of Dubai to attend the 8th annual ASDMUN conference. The event brought together schools from a wide range of countries including Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Turkey, and the Philippines. Nearly 300 delegates took part in 3-days of lobbying, resolution writing, and debate on the theme of “Adaptation: Changes in Processes, Practices and Structures to Help Cope With the Effects of Climate Change.” ABIS students represented Libya in the Arab League, Italy and Canada in the Environmental Commission, Thailand and Norway in the Human Rights Council, and Denmark, Sweden, and Latvia in the COP28, a forum dedicated to addressing environmental issues that will hold its 28th meeting later this year at Dubai’s Expo City.
I am pleased to share that ABIS students were directly involved in submitting 21 resolutions over the course of the conference, either as main or co-submitters. Of these, 15 were passed in their respective forums. Our MUN students continue to grow and shine! They are a credit to themselves and our community, and they look forward to the next opportunity to represent our school.
