All those literary essays in the SLS lead up to this. The Higher Level English Lang & Lit students have a 800-1000 word essay to complete on The Road. The process has not changed, the students are just far more independent. They plan, organize and compose on their own. Teacher support is pretty much limited to deconstructing the question for the initial brainstorm and revision of the text for content and coherence.
