We rested.
Well, not exactly rest. We piled into the van and took the hour’s drive (30km on crazy roads) to Colombo for a bit of souvenir shopping. The capital city is pretty much what you’re imagining right now: a concrete jungle with more McDonald’s than law-abiding drivers. It has a very pretty coastline and many religious idols and monuments to independence (I hope our driver wasn’t taking in any of these sights).
Back at the guesthouse we held a team meeting before dinner. Mr. Provencher led a discussion about finishing the trip on a high note and pushing to reach our goals. One student summed it up best, I think, when she said that now it’s about attitude. More than ever we need to maintain our focus and positive energy, right to the last brick.
Forecast calls for sunshine for the rest of our stay. Here we go!
