A fantastic effort this week by our girl’s and boy’s basketball teams in Muscat.
The boy’s team travelled to Muscat on Monday where they played in a round robin with 5 other teams. Being a first for many of our players the boys started nervously in their first match and were narrowly outplayed by TAISM as ABIS found difficulty getting the ball in the hoop. Despite the heat the boys really improved in their second game and were unlucky to go down to a strong ABA team 4-2 with Mickey the scorer. Our next game was inside and as ABIS found themselves in more familiar surroundings and with their confidence growing they had a good win over BSM with David scoring some pressure points. Back outside ABIS totally outplayed the eventual winners of the competition but once again found scoring difficult as they went down by 1 point with Williams being our only scorer. In the last game ABIS were in control with a 4-2 lead until the final seconds when TSS forced a turn over and scored to finish 4-4.
Well done Alex, Williams, Jed, David, Anton, Michael and Isaac who did an outstanding job in sometimes very trying conditions. Their first two matches were back to back outside in 40+ degree heat.
The girl’s team made the journey down to Muscat on Wednesday where they played a round robin with 3 other teams. The first game was against a very experienced TAISM team that plays twice a week against other schools. Despite being nervous the girls played some great defense to keep TAISM out and gradually grew in confidence to score a few baskets of their own. The opposition had too much experience though and built up a good score to win 14-4 over a fast improving ABIS. In a vey exciting second game our girls came within a whisker of defeating a very tall ABA team with Chloe scoring some great pressure baskets and Andee and Christine constantly breaking their attack with skillful steals. In the final seconds Andee put up a shot that that almost went in before rimming out as ABA won 6-5. In the final game against TSS we were on the scoreboard early as Christine scored after the jump ball. The girls were showing great enthusiasm as Ellie, Trisha and Aysha were everywhere in defense and all the girls began to find their range in shooting at the other end. Chloe, Andee and Chelsea made some good baskets to build a good lead for ABIS as the girls ran out winners 12-2.
A fantastic effort from all the girls – Chloe, Aysha, Trisha, Andee, Chelsea, Ellie and Christine. Go girls!
