As the final notes of the 2025–2026 academic year fade away and the music room doors close for the season, it is the perfect time to look back and celebrate the incredible musical journey our students have taken. This year has been an extraordinary exploration of sound, culture, and community across all grade levels.
The Journey Across the Strands
Our curriculum anchored deep conceptual understanding into real-world performance:
-
The Early Years (KG1 & KG2): Our youngest learners spent the year discovering the foundational building blocks of music. From finding their own internal “heartbeat” through rhythm games to memorizing complex lyrics, they developed the confidence to step out of their comfort zones as courageous Risk-Takers.
-
Grades 1 & 2 (Music in Society): Students explored how communities use music to celebrate, communicate, and unite. They transitioned beautifully from understanding these concepts in theory to putting them into practice, culminating in a heartwarming final performance where they sang their hearts out.
-
Grades 3 & 4 (Culture & Narrative): Upper primary students dove into the “Why” behind the music, discovering how diverse cultures use unique instruments and traditional melodies to pass down history. They mastered the art of musical storytelling, learning how to manipulate tempo and dynamics to move an audience.
-
Grades 5 & 6 (Ethics, Activism & Community): Our senior primary students tackled complex global themes, debating the social responsibility of artists and analyzing how music acts as a tool for social change.
Unforgettable Highlights
This year will be remembered for moments of immense dedication, teamwork, and outstanding stage presence:
-
The Jewel of Muscat: A standout showcase of school spirit, where Grade 5 students selflessly gave up their lunchtimes to master a professional-grade production, shining not only as performers but as light operators and backstage crew.
-
Grade 6 Graduation: A poignant, reflective milestone where our oldest primary students channeled their years of growth at ABIS into a powerful, emotionally unified graduation song.
-
The Grand Final Concerts: The year culminated in spectacular Summer Concerts. While our younger students brought pure joy to the stage, the Upper Primary (Grades 3–6) came together as one massive, synchronized ensemble, pulling off a highly successful, high-energy finale.
Through it all, our students grew immensely as IB Learners—developing crucial Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills in collaboration, communication, self-management, and critical thinking. They moved beautifully from a relaxed week of musical play and drama games into high-gear performance mode, and back again, proving themselves to be truly balanced individuals.
Happy Summer Holidays!
Thank you to our wonderful parents, dedicated staff, and—most of all—our brilliant, energetic students who filled the halls of ABIS with song, rhythm, and life every single day.
We wish the entire ABIS community a wonderful, restful, and safe summer holiday. Whether you are traveling far or staying close to home, may your break be filled with joy, laughter, and great music.
Have a happy summer, travel safely, and we look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready for a new rhythm in the next school year!
