Students are excited to get a break after an intense first semester. I am sure they have various plans for activities in which to participate and joy about seeing family and friends. As part of the spirit of lifelong learning, I encourage students to continue critical reading: read some more non-fiction or view documentaries and news programmes, listen to podcasts and radio broadcasts. Ask questions and engage family and friends in discussions about issues that impact our lives.
Grade 7: History Channel and National Geographic Channel on YouTube; memoirs of a person you admire or even dislike;
Grade 8: TedEd Talks, e.g. “How to understand power” by Eric Liu; documentaries about topics of interest;
Grade 9: continue reading, viewing, and listening to news, e.g. CNN10 (podcast or YouTube).
