This week, we introduced the Grade 10 students to the interdisciplinary pre-release material as part of their preparation for the on-screen IDU e-assessments in May 2025. The focus of this year’s IDU combines Science and English Language and Literature, encouraging students to explore connections between these disciplines while addressing real-world issues.

To kick off the preparation, students were introduced to health monitoring technologies, such as “Wearable Devices for COVID-19 Tracking” and “Remote Monitoring for COVID-19 Patients.” These examples showcased how innovative technologies played a pivotal role during the pandemic, emphasizing their benefits for public health. Additionally, students watched videos like “Tracking the Global Response to COVID-19” and “Pfizer Vaccine Data Breach” to consider the ethical risks associated with health technologies, particularly privacy concerns arising from breaches of sensitive health data. These activities aimed to foster critical thinking and meaningful discussions around both the scientific and ethical dimensions of these topics.

Students have now been organized into groups, with each group analyzing one of the four health monitoring devices featured in the pre-release material. Their tasks include conducting a detailed technology analysis, presenting their findings, and writing reflections on how they integrated their learning from both Science and English. Through this process, Mr. Michael and I are guiding them in making thoughtful inquiries into the material, ensuring they understand its relevance to their interdisciplinary examination.

We are confident that this structured approach will equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to successfully tackle the IDU e-assessment tasks in May.
