Student agency is when students of their own volition initiate actions that support thier learning within the context of their learning environment. Student agency implies an intrinsically motivated volition on the part of the student. Autonomy, mastery and purpose are fundamental to intrinsic motivation – a foundational block of student agency. This concept is one that is being actively encouraged to ensure the students have the mastery of the skills they need for success in their chosen futures.
