Grade 5 is embarking on an exciting yet nerve-racking field trip! On Thursday, 5 June they are traveling to Sohar University (SU) to speak, in ARABIC!, at a workshop entitled Effective Waste Management in Schools organized for teachers from 20 government schools. SU and Sohar Battery Collection have organized this event on World Environment Day as a way of reaching out to schools in the Sohar area on the topic. Grade 5 was invited to present at the workshop because, as part of their Mini-Exhibition (16-18 June in the MPA) they are trying to raise awareness at ABIS as well as in the community at Safeer Mall and SU (more on that soon, watch this space!!) on the issue of wasted bottled water. Another reason for the invitation was because ABIS is involved in and has started programs (battery collection, recycling of drinking cans and reusing and recycling paper) to try to more effectively manage the waste ABIS and the school community creates. Please join me in wishing them luck! Here they are practicing their Arabic lines.
