Well, it has been a bizarre few weeks for the Secondary school having now experienced a fire and an earthquake. One wonders what next? floods or locusts? To be honest I was relieved to end it on a positive note in an all school assembly today, where we celebrated the swimming gala by handing out certificates and welcomed our injured Arabic teacher, Miss Maram, during her very special visit.

In terms of repairing the fire damage we now have a team of cleaning contractors working in the Secondary School and they were making good progress when I checked today. I should have a very good idea of where we stand in terms of when we can move back in by the end of next week and I will share this news when it becomes more definite. One thing I have learned about living in this part of the world is to be careful ‘what’ you promise and ‘when’ promise it by. We have already made arrangements to replace some of the furniture, as well as all of the carpets and ceiling tiles and restore or ‘deep clean’ everything else.

One important date for your diary is April the 29th when we will have a Secondary School Student-Led-conference between 4pm and 7pm. We hope that all parents can attend. We will finalise the available twenty minute conference time slots next week, but we hope that we will be able to arrange a convenient time for you to attend. There will be several aspects to the students’ presentations including a reflection of their progress, a celebration of their work, and a discussion of their personal targets. Our goal is to encourage a learning focused conversation between child and parents supported by advisors and teachers. To facilitate this Mid-Semester 2 progress reports will be shared on Saturday 29th April. Please note that the Primary school will hold student-led-conferences on a different date (May 8 and 9th) and that their reporting process will be different. I am sure that this process will be announced elsewhere on the Broadcaster shortly.

I wish you an enjoyable weekend!
