STUDENT WEB PORTALS
Those of you with children in the secondary school know that this year we launched an exciting new program at ABIS, where each student in the secondary has their own web portal to share all of the learning that goes on each day in school. This portal will follow them throughout their years here at ABIS, and will form the basis for their electronic portfolio, an invaluable resource come the time they begin to think about their post-secondary application process.
Since the launch, our IT department has been steadily working in the background ironing out details and issues, whilst providing support to both students and teachers. Our goal at the onset of this program was to make this a whole-school initiative, and we are now prepared to take the next step.
THE NEXT STEP
This week, we will be introducing personal web portals to students in K1 all the way to Grade 5. Each student will have their own portal and will begin populating it with material gathered from throughout the school year.
K1-K3 web portals will be populated and managed by classroom teachers. Our students in G1-G2 will be populating their own portals using the iPads that are located in their classrooms, and our students in G3-G5 will be using their own iPads to populate their portals.
ACCESSING YOUR CHILD’S PORTAL
These portals are completely secure and at this time, the only people, besides your child, who will have log-in access to the portal will be your child’s teacher and the IT department. In the coming weeks, a form will be sent home allowing you to designate to whom you would like access granted. This will allow us to set up a personalized log-in for parents, grandparents or other family members or friends with whom you would like to share your child’s portal.
Right now, your child’s portal is pretty much empty. Once we have more to share, and we have any kinks ironed out, we will send home information about logging into the portal. In the meantime, should you have any questions, feel free to contact your child’s teacher.
