ABIS Performing Arts Department

As we move closer to the Winter Music Concert, excitement continues to build across all grade levels. This week, every class took meaningful steps forward—polishing their performance pieces, strengthening their musical skills, and growing in confidence as young performers. The music room has been full of energy, determination, and joyful sound!

KG1 & KG2 – Growing Steady and Singing Proudly

Following last week’s exploration of soundscapes, our Kindergarten musicians took a big leap into performance mode. The focus this week was on steady beat, clear singing, and stage readiness.

This Week’s Progress:

  • Practising their concert songs with stronger voices and clearer actions

  • Keeping a steady beat while moving, clapping, or playing instruments

  • Learning how to start together and finish together

  • Building confidence through short “mini-performances” in class

Our KG learners are now understanding what it means to perform for an audience—listening, focusing, and enjoying the music together.

Grade 1 & Grade 2 – Polishing Soundscapes & Strengthening Rhythm

Grades 1 and 2 continued refining their soundscapes, this time focusing on smooth transitions, dynamic changes, and teamwork. Their rehearsal sessions for the upcoming concert songs grew stronger, with students showing increased musical awareness.

This Week’s Progress:

  • Adding dynamics (quiet/loud, smooth/sharp) to make their soundscapes more expressive

  • Practising concert songs with clearer diction and improved timing

  • Strengthening group coordination—starting in unison, pausing together, ending cleanly

  • Understanding how to perform confidently on stage

Their creativity is blossoming as they find ways to make their musical stories come alive for the upcoming performance.

Grade 3 & Grade 4 – Stronger Ensemble Skills & Focused Rehearsals

This week, Grades 3 and 4 shifted from exploration to performance refinement. Students worked on accuracy, musical expression, and blending their voices and instruments to create a unified ensemble sound.

Grade 3 Progress:

  • Playing recorder melodies more fluently with improved breath control

  • Practising concert songs with noticeable confidence

  • Strengthening ensemble awareness by listening to each other while playing

Grade 4 Progress:

  • Smoother ukulele chord changes and more consistent strumming

  • Better pitch accuracy during vocal warm-ups and songs

  • Rehearsing transitions and staging for their performance

Both grades are showing excellent focus and are beginning to sound performance-ready.

🎤 Grade 5 & Grade 6 – Refining Expression & Performance Presence

Our upper primary musicians stepped into the performance mindset this week, focusing on expression, poise, and stage presence—essential elements for a polished concert.

Grade 5 Progress:

  • Using expressive dynamics to communicate mood

  • Refining transitions between sections of their songs

Grade 6 Progress:

  • Strengthening vocal projection and phrasing
