Grade 12 chemistry students are actively exploring potential Internal Assessment (IA) topics while investigating rates of reactions. This week, they’ve manipulated variables such as temperature and concentration to determine how each factor influences reaction speed, and practiced deducing reaction rates from the data plotted on graphs.

The highlight has been a hands-on exercise where they broke down the IA criteria by writing a mini IA report focused on the effect of temperature on the rate of reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulfate (Na₂S₂O₃ ). This is helping to deepen their understanding of experimental design while also preparing them for developing robust investigations for their final IA projects.
