After completing a four-week intensive review of Pre-IB Chemistry and achieving a successful summative assessment, grade 11 chemistry students are now starting their first unit based on the models of the particulate nature of matter. This week, they explored, Structure 1.1- Introduction to the particulate nature of matter where they focused on the fundamental differences between atoms, elements, compounds, and mixtures. They also studied the kinetic theory of matter and analyzed heating and cooling curves to understand energy changes during reactions. Finally, they conducted experiments on separation techniques, such as fractional and simple distillation, and crystallization.
