A short week this week, but we still packed a lot in!

Our littlest dancers continued to move like butterflies, stomp like giants, pick the stars, throw electricity from their fingers, look in windows and sit on cats (ask them!).  For the very young ones, imagery plays a hugely important role in dance and movement learning as they are not yet ready for the abstractions of language that are used with older students. “Put your toes to bed” is far more successful than “Turn out your legs” at this age.

The younger primary students continued to work on bend, shake and turn, with the movements “press“, “glide” and “thrust” being examined as ways in which to move. The popular improvisation activities were combined with the copy cat game with the children laughing hysterically about trying to keep foot movements and arm movements coordinated.

The middle and upper primary have been investigating motif and this has continued in this short week, with motif being developed into phrases – or part of a dance. The theme “wind” has been followed throughout.  The contemporary dance that formed the inspiration for the activities adapted to each grade and stage can be found on youtube. Improvisation for the upper primary has been moving in slow motion – which has been met with great enthusiasm.

When we return from the Eid break, we will be starting choreography for the different assemblies that our students will appear in.  Please pay attention to all notifications as not all grades will perform on the same days.

This week I have decided to try  uploading photos instead of video links.  Lots of our littlest dancers here!  Enjoy!

Have an amazing Eid everyone – see you next week!
