Dear Families
Welcome to another year of Dance in the Primary School. It promises to be, as ever, a great deal of fun, with the exciting addition of pre-dance classes for the Early Years.
This year classes from grades two and up have two classes a week, which means we can spend more time investigating different kinds of dance, and more time rehearsing for performances. K3 and Grade 1 have one class a week with the opportunity to develop their skills and technical prowess as appropriate for their age and stage.
There is no uniform for dance, but for children in grade two and above, it is recommended that they come to school in comfortable clothes which will allow them to move freely in the dance room. Loose pants or trousers are suggested with comfy cotton tees. As we dance in bare feet, it would be very helpful if children wore sandals on “dance day” to facilitate the easy slipping off and slipping on of shoes.
This year we are looking at some slight changes with dance assemblies. The primary school is now big enough that a single performance in the MPA is too crowded for audience and performers both. Thus the dance assemblies will be split into performances of smaller groups of classes. Please read posts on this blog CAREFULLY to ensure you know when your child is performing as shows often come with clothing requirements.
There will be a large performance at the end of the year as per tradition for the entire school in conjunction with the music programme. Know that our host country is regularly represented in performance during the year and has become a solid favourite amongst our students.
