Dear Parents & Students,
The Primary Student council at ABIS rolled out a new initiative called ‘Mindful Monday’ and ‘Workout Wednesday’ last week to promote student wellness and engagement in school. These are short 10 minute sessions each, starting just before the classes, in the ‘Oasis’, a lovely new addition to our outdoor space.
Mindful Monday is to give students a few minutes of quiet time to relax and focus their thoughts before the hustle and bustle of the day begins. This activity involves a short breathing exercise or yoga poses.
Workout Wednesday is all about getting students moving and energized for the day ahead and it involves jogging, jumping jacks, push ups & running.
Both of these activities are entirely optional for students, and are open to all teachers and students to join. The response so far, especially from the younger grades, has been inspiringly positive.
Students from the Student Council take turns to run the sessions and have been enthusiastically planning and putting together the activities for each session.
Overall, this has been a small but powerful platform for the students of the Student Council to develop their confidence and has been a great way to bring the students together in the morning. In the coming days, the Student Council is keen to be involved in more community activities at ABIS.
Through the looking glass: A glimpse of Students in Mindful Monday and Workout Wednesday
Thanks & Regards
