In Grade 8, the students have been learning about Jazz and Blues, two unique musical styles that maintain a strong position in the Black/African American identity in the US.  For the end of their unit, instead of taking a test or completing a more conventional summative, the student developed their own projects to educate others about the history of Jazz and the Blues.  The goal was to adapt the concept of UNESCO’s International Jazz Day for the ABIS community.  Some students have made mini lessons for their PYP classmates, and organized push-in lessons. Others have researched and curated Spotify playlists of different Jazz and Blues artists, or informational posters designed to peak interest in the musical genres.  As a class, the students set the learning goals of working collaboratively with others and becoming more aware of their growth.  I am so pleased with their creatively, hard work, and problem solving.
