The new year is always exciting… new faces, new names, new expectations. This week I focussed on learning a few things about each student and revealing some basic reasons for why maths is a worthwhile area to study. Beyond exam preparations and general school requirements, we study maths to better understand the what and the why of how things work; pattern recognition and understanding are key skills that were introduced in grades 7-10. The “Maths Intensive” time will take on several forms throughout the year; for the next several weeks, students will spend 20 minutes each day on revision skills (via IXL on the iPad) and will pull-out for skill revision sessions with me and other students across grade levels.
