Yes, it is that time of year again when we get a sample of Omani crude oil and we separate and test the different fractions using a distillation. It is an interesting organic chemistry lab that logically has a clear connection to real life, since we are living next to a refinery. Grade 12 Chemistry students tested afterwards the fractions for volatility, flammability, viscosity, color, smell, etc. Grade 12 Biology students finished with Animal Physiology and will get started with extended Physiology for their option.
Grade 11 Chemistry students finished with the HL part of periodicity and studied the properties of transition metals and the formation of colored complexes. Grade 11 a biology students covered replication of DNA, transcription and translation.
Grade 7 students talked about states of matter, changes of state and about the differences between elements and compounds.
