Dear Parents,
A big milestone this week: all registrations for the 2026/27 MYP e-Assessment session are now official on the IB platform. Thank you to our Grade 10 families for your support, your questions, your responses, and the conversations you have had at home along the way. And thank you to our students, who are already showing real commitment to the year ahead. One more important step completed!
In French, Grade 9s are absolutely soaring through their travel unit. The pace has been wonderful, and they are now preparing to write their own travel blog articles, bringing together the vocabulary, grammar, conventions, and ideas they have built so far.
Grade 10s are continuing their mental health and wellbeing unit, analysing the conventions of formal reports and looking closely at how information is organised for a particular audience and purpose. This week also brought us back to something that sometimes gets a bad reputation: memorising things. Concepts are absolutely at the heart of the MYP, but content still matters. Vocabulary, structures, and key language need to be learnt well enough to become available when students need them. And when we know what is waiting at the end of Grade 10, with formal eAssessments asking students to retrieve, apply, analyse, and communicate independently, that practice becomes even more meaningful. The stronger the foundations, the more freedom students have to think.
Grade 12s have reached an important turning point too. With their Individual Oral now behind them, they have agreed on a clear structure for these final months of DP French and are ready to move forward with purpose. Finishing such a significant assessment has clearly put some wind in their sails. One victory down, renewed confidence on board, and now… ready to go!
There is something worth remembering in all three stories. Learning needs understanding and knowledge, reflection and repetition, challenge and confidence. We do not have to choose between them.
Sometimes progress looks like a major assessment finally completed. Sometimes it looks like a class moving faster because the foundations are secure. Sometimes it is simply knowing the right word at the right moment because you took the time to learn it properly.
All of it counts.
A bientôt,
Miss J
