Grade 12 DP Chemistry – Exploring Enthalpy Changes
This week, Grade 12 students continued their study of enthalpy changes, completing an experiment on the enthalpy change of combustion. Alongside collecting data, students considered sources of error, assumptions, and possible improvements to their experimental method.
Students also applied bond enthalpies to calculate energy changes and became more familiar with using values from the IB Chemistry Data Booklet.
Next week, we will continue with Hess’s Law and aim to wrap up the SL energetics content.
Grade 11 DP Chemistry – Building the Foundations
This week, Grade 11 students continued building their foundational IB Chemistry knowledge, completing a formative task to check their understanding of the areas covered so far.
We also completed another practical, focusing on developing essential laboratory skills, including titration techniques and safe handling of acids and bases.
Next week, students will complete one more practical on preparing copper(II) sulfate crystals before officially beginning the DP Chemistry syllabus with Structure 1.
