Sunday: what a great start! A large percentage of the class attended. They were engaged and started planning well for the visitors from different language backgrounds followed by researching global events like the various Olympic games and how ‘green’ games truly are. They also practised how to create an Action Plan – a vital skill they will need for their Personal Projects next year.

Monday: oh, dear! Attendance dropped, but those who came to school continued learning. They looked into the 3 pillars of sustainability and how ABIS GAMES can be sustainable now and into the future. We ‘donated’ 2 students to take on the Grade 10 planning and preparation of ABIS GAMES.

Tuesday: A surprise – 2 students returned and strengthened Grade 9 attendance (also getting more house points). The focus was on creating a product to showcase their learning. They created a website that guests to ABIS GAMES can access with a QR code. Their scripts for the tour through each grade level’s preparation for the games were translated into multiple languages to represent our community. They mapped out the route, which was also posted on the website. At the end of the day, they led the ‘dress rehearsal’ in order to identify any areas they needed to fix before Wednesday.

Wednesday: Let the games begin! The grade 9s competently and professionally guided the parents and students through all the stations that had prepared different aspects of the games ending in the Sports Hall to lead the opening ceremony. The six students in Grade 9, who committed to continued learning especially when they have the opportunity to further develop their transfer skills, are commended for their resilience this week. They deserve a fantastic summer holiday.
