This week Grade 8 students had to create a visual map of the power dynamics within ABIS as an organisation. Some students showed great awareness of where to find information about the stakeholders of the school and use the information to create a visual map. A few needed help with getting started and/or organising their map. To this end, they were provided with an AI tutor who could guide them to think in greater depth about power dynamics at ABIS.

Here you can see one student’s interaction with the AI tutor:

As students interacted with the AI tutor, it kept track of their achievement of the learning outcomes:

Grade 9 students also had the opportunity to get support from an AI tutor in English for the start of their News unit. The students could get assistance in understanding the structural features of a magazine news article. Here is one of the interactions:

As can be seen, the AI tutor provides guidance through asking questions to get students to gain knowledge and understanding. It doesn’t give answers; rather allows the students to go on a journey of discovery where students had opportunity to ask questions in a ‘safe’ space and respond to the tutor’s questions without feeling intimidated or hesitant.
