KG 1 & KG 2 – Little Rhythmic Explorers

Our youngest musicians have been discovering rhythm through play!

We explored rhythms around the world — from the sounds of trains chugging and footsteps walking to the steady beat in our favorite songs. Through rhythm games, the children practiced starting and stopping together, learning to listen and respond as a team.

This week, we also played with dynamics (loud and soft) and tempo (fast and slow), using our bodies and instruments to show how music can move and change. It’s been joyful watching our KG learners find their inner beat!

Grade 1 – Moving to Music and Making Meaning

Grade 1 students are learning that music is movement, expression, and teamwork.

They explored tempo (fast/slow) and dynamics (loud/soft) while practicing how to start and stop together in performance. Using their bodies and creative movements, students responded to different musical moods — sometimes fast like the wind, sometimes slow like a sleepy lullaby.

We’re beginning to create our own rhythms and movement pieces, helping students see that music is a language that comes from both heart and body.

Grade 2 – Composers and Storytellers

Our Grade 2 musicians reflected on what it means to perform together as a group — listening, following, and sharing ideas.

They have been writing music using graphic scores, turning pictures into sounds to create expressive soundscapes. Through this process, students learned how music can represent emotions and identity.

We ended the week with peer reflections, where students shared thoughts on each other’s soundscapes — a beautiful moment of appreciation and creative growth.

Grade 3 – Reading, Playing, and Performing

Grade 3 has been focusing on music notation and recorder technique. 🎼

Students are learning how to read rhythms and notes, maintain good posture, and use proper breathing while playing.

We’ve been working in small groups to peer-assess recorder performances, giving kind and constructive feedback. Singing practice continues to strengthen their musical ear, and we’re starting to discuss musical personalities — how different instruments and voices have their own “character.”

Grade 4 – Ukulele Journeys

Our Grade 4 students are diving into the ukulele — exploring chords, strumming patterns, and ensemble playing.

Performing together has been a major focus, as learners practice listening carefully to stay in sync with classmates.

They’re also developing skills in peer assessment, learning to give feedback that is both positive and specific. The classroom is filled with the cheerful sound of strings and growing confidence!

Grades 5 & 6 – Musicians in the Making

Upper primary musicians have been working hard on instrument studies focused on technique and ensemble performance.

Whether on keyboards, percussion, or voice, students are refining tone, posture, and precision while performing together.

Peer assessments encourage reflection on personal growth and ensemble unity. Singing continues to be a joyful part of each lesson, helping students connect emotionally to music and to one another.

Music Across All Grades

Across the school, our learners are discovering that music is not just sound — it’s communication, cooperation, and creativity. From steady beats to self-expression, every student is finding their unique musical voice.
