This week in Performing Arts, the drama studio was once again buzzing with excitement, imagination, and bold creativity! Building on last week’s focus on expression and storytelling, students from KG1 to Grade 6 took their performance skills to the next level—exploring voice, space, and character like never before.
KG1 – Grade 2: Finding Our Voice and Telling Our Stories
After mastering facial expressions and gestures, our youngest performers began adding their voices to their characters! Students experimented with pitch, pace, and volume to discover how a character might sound—Is the giant grumpy? Is the fairy cheerful and soft-spoken? Through storytelling circles, they reimagined classic tales and began crafting their own original story moments, using both voice and movement to express emotions and intent.
A highlight? Our “Emotion Statues with Sound” game, where students froze in a dramatic pose—and then brought their character to life with a single line of dialogue!
Grade 3 – Grade 6: Deepening Characters and Sharpening Stagecraft
Our older students moved from blocking and staging into the heart of performance: developing character motivation and vocal expression. With scripts in hand, they began rehearsing their three-scene plays with added focus on delivery and stage presence. We introduced the idea of subtext—what the character really feels, even when their words say something else. This led to powerful, thoughtful performances and rich classroom discussions.
They also explored stage directions, experimented with different entrances and exits, and started giving each other peer feedback with kindness and insight. The students are truly beginning to think and act like an ensemble!
Every student this week took steps toward becoming more confident communicators and expressive storytellers. The courage they’re showing to try new things, support one another, and take creative risks has been a joy to watch.
We can’t wait to see how their performances continue to evolve in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned—these young artists are just getting started! 🌟🎬
