As part of their criteria B and C assessments, grade 7 students have been exploring the use of the quadrat in sampling plant vegetation. In this hot weather, technology comes in handy to help students effectively achieve the objective of the study. Students used simulations to sample a field to determine the population of daisies in the field. They also used the same technology to determine the variation of daisies along an environmental gradient such as sunlight. This culminated in the analysis of the data collated by the students. It was an amazing moment to see young adults manipulating scientific data with an appreciable level of confidence. It is expected that this lesson will form a strong foundation for the students as they continue the study of science in MYP.
