If your mission was to transfer a message from point A to point B, but it had to move through multiple different brains before it got to the ears of the person who needed to act on it, do you think you could do it?

Today, Grade 8 interactively engaged with their Collaboration and Communication Skills (Social Skills & Communication AtL’s). Effective team collaboration is important if any group is going to be successful in achieving their shared goal.

In order to connect to this on a more personal level, we engaged in a little experiment, which you can see outlined below. For someone on the outside looking in, one might have judged students’  initial issues and arguments about working in mixed teams, a game-ender.  However, one of the most refreshing thing about working with this group is that when you step back, start that timer and leave them to it, their inner IB student takes control of their bodies and brains.

This is when the magic happens.

Next week we will continue to explore these concepts in a meaningful way and then individually reflect on how we might apply the realizations that come through this process in the real world.
